The Learn a Sight Word Interactive Word Study activity gives students the opportunity to map the sounds in each sight word to the letters that spell those sounds. On certain Independent Track Instructional Steps, students engage with this activity directly before watching a video to introduce the book they will be reading that contains the new sight word. Students can also access Interactive Word Study activities from some books on their Bookshelf, Assigned Books, Favorites, and Book Bag.
Here's how it works:
Once students launch the Learn a Sight Word activity, the opening animation serves as a demonstration of how the game will be played. When students are ready to play, they will click the Begin button.
The sight word will be displayed on the screen. The audio will say the word, then break the word into each sound.
Then the student will be prompted to make the word. To do so, the student will drag the letter tiles from the orange box to the empty boxes below or double-click the letter tiles to send them down.
If the student makes the word correctly, the word will be broken into each sound again, then read aloud. If the student misspells the word, the computer will show the correct spelling. Then, the audio will break the word into individual sounds, say the word, and prompt the student to try one more time.
A large check mark with the word “Done” signals the end of the activity! A fun animation featuring Bella and Rosie will pop up to congratulate the student before they move on to their next stop.
