The Assessment and Data Center is designed to meet the needs of teachers and administrators by efficiently collecting, tracking, and sharing data that is captured during student assessments. It can be used to pinpoint students' instructional reading levels to create reading groups and differentiate instruction.
This article will cover the following topics:
- Assessment Books and Resources
- Entering, Editing, and Deleting Student Assessment Data
- Determining the Instructional Reading Level after the Digital Reader Assessment

Assessment Books and Resources
All of our assessment books can be found in the Assessment Books tab of the Assessment and Data Center. *Please note, the assessment books are only intended to be used by the teacher in screen-share mode. Students do not have access to these books on their student account, and you cannot assign them to your students. To find the assessment books and resources, follow the steps below.
1. From your dashboard, click on Assessment and Data Center.
2. Click on Assessment Books.
3. To navigate the books, you can either search by Book Title, Filter By Level, or simply use the Next button at the top of the page. Each level has two books that have been developed and tested specifically for assessment, and each book has an accompanying reading record specific to the book.
4. To locate an assessment book's reading record, select the book you'd like the reading record for, and then click on the paper icon on the left rail to download the reading record.
The reading records can also be found as a part of the Assessment Resources. To find the Assessment Resources, click on the Assessment Resources tab in the Assessment and Data Center.
If you are already in the Assessment Kit, you can click on the Assessment Resources button on the top right of your screen.
The Assessment Resources page contains all of the assessment book reading records and dozens of other valuable assessment resources, such as the Letter-Sound Assessment and the Leveled Word Assessment.
Entering, Editing, and Deleting Student Assessment Data
After you have completed an assessment with your student, turn to the final page of the Assessment Kit book to find a simple form to input the assessment results. You can also select the Clipboard icon in the left sidebar to reach the form. Select your student from the drop-down menu, and complete the fields. Then click Save Assessment.
If you'd like to track your students’ data or review previous data, there are two ways to do so from your dashboard: from Students or from the Assessment and Data Center.
*Please note, historical assessment data may be displayed, but you can only edit or delete scores and data from the current academic term.
From Students
1. From your dashboard, click Students.
2. From there, locate the student whose assessment data you'd like to view or edit and click on the Graph icon to the right of their name to find all of the data that you have added from the Digital Assessment Kit, as well as to input progress monitoring information.
From the Assessment and Data Center
1. From your dashboard, click Assessment and Data Center.
2. Click Student Reading Record Data.
3. Locate the student whose assessment data you'd like to view or edit and click on the Graph icon to the right of their name to find all of the data that you have added from the Digital Assessment Kit, as well as to input progress monitoring information.
Determining the Instructional Reading Level after the Digital Reader Assessment
After the Digital Reader assessment, your next step is determining the instructional reading level for the student being assessed.
For Levels A–E, the only data used for determining the best level to begin guided reading instruction will be the accuracy rate. (Note that at Levels D and E, you will assess comprehension, but that score will not be used to determine instructional level.)
Beginning at Level F, the comprehension score and the accuracy rate will be used to determine the best instructional level to begin guided reading and to help you decide how to group students by instructional need.
Here are the tables from the Literacy Footprints Guided Reading Assessment Teaching Guides, Levels A-N and Levels O-Z, for your reference:
Be sure to update your students’ instructional reading levels each time they assess at a new level. You can change a student’s instructional level in the student’s profile from your classroom roster by clicking on the Pencil icon to the right of the student's name. You will still need to update the levels on their independent reading bookshelf. You can do this from the same menu under the Bookshelf Reading Levels section.
Don't forget to click Update Student to save!
