Virtual Learning Quick Guide
The Digital Reader platform includes many features you can utilize for virtual learning, whether you are teaching from home during weather days or setting your students up for success while away on winter or summer break.
Sharing Screens
In this helpful tutorial, Michèle Dufresne shows how to use Zoom alongside the Digital Reader.
Teaching reading lessons on your video conferencing platform (e.g., Zoom) using only a shared screen is challenging. It is best if you can have each student reading on their own device at their own pace, which involves having two screens up: their Digital Reader and the Zoom screen.
Logging in at Home
Students with a Digital Reader license can access the platform from their own computers and tablets connected to the internet. Provide login information to your students and/or their families ahead of time to avoid frustration.
Independent Reading
Digital Reader's Independent Tracks provide students with structure and support during independent reading and center time. Make sure your students are assigned to an appropriate Independent Track and focus before heading home for an extended break.
The Digital Reader Bookshelf is a great place for you to make sure your student has plenty of independent level books to read. Your students will only be able to see the books that are on their Bookshelf. We recommend managing each student’s Bookshelf individually to reflect the independent reading levels for that particular student.
