Pioneer Valley Books currently offers multiple ways to assess your students: our free Leveled Reading Assessment (LRA) and the Digital Reader Assessment Kit. The online LRA is a simple and quick assessment tool designed to help teachers and parents select books at the appropriate reading level that will help their students grow as readers and thinkers. It is intended to support teachers and parents in making simple decisions about where to start a student.
For a more comprehensive literacy assessment tool, we recommend the Assessment Kit, currently offered as part of any Digital Reader subscription. Each level has two books that have been developed and tested specifically for assessment, and each assessment book is accompanied by a reading record. These assessments will give you a reading accuracy rate to help you determine where to start reading lessons. Starting at Level D, comprehension and fluency assessments are also available, though they aren't used to determine instructional level until Level F.
