Below is a brief introduction to Digital Reader to be shared with parents and caregivers of students. Don't forget to also share the student's access instructions!
Welcome to Digital Reader! Here is what you need to know about the platform to help you support your child.
What is Digital Reader?
Digital Reader is a powerful resource that provides a highly-personalized learning experience based on individual skill level and student needs, pairing interactive games and videos with dynamic Pioneer Valley Books texts to keep students engaged.
How will my child log in?
Digital Reader is a browser-based program, meaning it is accessible from any device equipped with a web browser. Your child's teacher will provide specific login information for your child’s personal account.
What will my child see on Digital Reader?
Your child will see a number of clickable icons that will take them to different sections of Digital Reader.
The Bookshelf includes books that your child can read independently. These books are managed by the teacher for each student based on reading level, Lexile® measure, or phonics focus.
Assigned Books are titles that your child’s teacher is asking the student to read instructionally (with the teacher or a caregiver).
The Favorites icon brings your child to a list of books that they have marked as favorites by clicking on a heart on the last page of a digital text.
The Book Bag contains books your child has already read, either independently or as Assigned Books. These books can be read for additional practice. Books go into the Book Bag when the student marks them as read or when the teacher adds them.
The Letter Tray allows students to manipulate letters, promoting exploratory learning and reinforcing foundational reading skills in a playful, engaging way.
Reading Adventures and Phonics Adventures provide students with structure and support during independent reading. Students zoom along with Bella and Rosie or sail the seas with Daisy (beloved characters from some of our books) as they complete word study activities, watch a book introduction video, read a book independently, and answer three comprehension questions.
Reading Goals allows teachers to set weekly, monthly, and yearly goals for reading. The Reading Goals tile gives students the opportunity to track their progress and earn fun and motivating Badges to reward their practice.
