Caregiver Letter - What is the Digital Reader?
Welcome to the Digital Reader!
Your Student now has access to the Digital Reader. Here is what you need to know about the platform to help you support your child.
What is the Digital Reader?
The Digital Reader is a powerful resource that provides a highly-personalized learning experience based on individual skill level and student needs, pairing interactive games and videos with dynamic Pioneer Valley Books texts to keep students engaged.
How will my child log in?
The Digital Reader is a browser-based program, meaning it is accessible from any device equipped with a web browser. Your child's teacher will provide specific login information for your child’s personal account.
What will my child see on the Digital Reader?
After landing on the Student Dashboard, your child will see a number of clickable icons that will take them to different sections of their Digital Reader experience.
The Bookshelf includes books that your child can read independently. These levels are managed by the teacher at the individual student level.
Assigned Books are titles that your child’s teacher is asking the student to read instructionally (with the teacher or a caregiver).
The Favorites icon brings your child to a list of books that they have read and marked as favorites by clicking on a heart on the last page of a digital text.
The Book Bag contains books that a student has already read as Assigned Books or independently, which can be re-read for practice. Books go into the Book Bag either when the student marks them as read or when the teacher adds them manually.
The Letter Tray allows students to manipulate letters, promoting exploratory learning and reinforcing foundational reading skills in a playful, engaging way.
Reading Adventures is a brand new feature that provides students with structure and support during independent reading. This feature provides students with three randomized and system-generated book choices, selected for the student based on their Reading Adventures level. Students will zoom along with Bella and Rosie (beloved characters from some of our books) as they complete a word study activity, watch a book introduction video, read a book independently, and answer three comprehension questions. Reading Adventures supports student learning at a pace that is just right for them, with fun and interactive lessons designed to keep students focused as they learn.
Reading Goals is a feature that allows teachers to set weekly, monthly, and yearly goals for reading. The Reading Goals tab gives students the opportunity to track their progress and receive fun and motivating Badges to reward their practice.
