Is There Text Missing from My Assessment Reading Record?

When you administer the Level A and Level B leveled reading assessment, you might have noticed some missing text from the reading record. This is because at these early levels, the teacher scaffolds the assessment by modeling reading the beginning of the book. The student then picks up the reading and the teacher records it on the provided reading record. For those first pages, the teacher is providing the language structure for the student so that they can observe if Level A and B reading strategies, such as text directionality and one-to-one matching, are in place.

For Level A, the teacher reads pages 2 and 3; for Level B, the teacher only reads page 2. As you can see below, this is indicated in the instructions at the top of the reading record.
